FashionTech Toronto all started when I was looking for a place to connect with other people and companies in Toronto's fashion technology industry. As the COO of fashion-tech company Specsy, I suspected there were other growing companies in this industry, but I could't find a place to connect with them.
I headed to a fashion technology conference in New York to find peers in the space and was pleasantly surprised to find that a large contingent of attendees were also from Toronto. This confirmed my belief that Toronto is quickly emerging as a global leader in the fashion-tech industry. As they say, if you can't find it, build it, so that's exactly what I did and FashionTech Toronto was born.
Thank you for taking the time to particpate in this community. I can't wait to meet you at the next event! Until then, drop me a line or follow us on social to stay up to date on all the amazing things happening in this emerging industry.
See you soon!
Founder & Producer of FashionTech Toronto | Chief Operating Officer at Specsy
Ashley Barby grew up in Alberta with a passion for fashion and her early sights set on Toronto (or even New York). With degree in hand, and the experience of a plum job with Holt Renfrew, she followed her heart and headed East. Her journey has taken her into the fascinating world of fashion and technology, including the launch of her own online luxury shopping company for authentic pre-loved designer items. She has taken unexpected turns with two technology start-ups, most recently in the fashion technology space as Chief Operating Officer with Specsy - manufacturers of custom 3D printed fashion eyewear.
Community engagement, from supporting local fashion colleges to mentoring new entrepreneurs, is at the heart of Ashley’s commitment to make the world a better place – and is also the driver behind her launch of FashionTech Toronto, a forum to connect innovators and leaders in the fashion and tech fields.
